About
Justin Ackerman is an American abstract painter and photographer from Richmond, VA. In 2011 he graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BA in English Literature.
He has always had a fascination with the mind and the ways in which our perceptions shape the way see the world. We all have internal personal worlds that we create and inhabit.
If we’re able to remove ourselves from the attachment that we are our thoughts and feelings - and try and see ourselves not as the experience, but as the observer - then we can try to lift a veil and see more clearly.
In reading between the lines of thought, there are these internal spaces to be explored that stretch beyond words. In these spaces, there is a depth to explore our subconscious minds where colors flash, lines, textures and shapes move. There’s a language that precedes the words we use to express them. These internal landscapes greatly influence Ackerman’s work.
In his artwork, Justin likes to explore the different ways in which our minds create our conscious reality and the spaces between in which we exist.
Justin currently lives in Seoul, South Korea.
